Remembering what makes your brand magical

You are the magic.

Have you ever heard the saying, “people buy from who they like, know, and trust?” That saying is true in everything. No matter how great a burger is, you’re not going to keep going to the same restaurant to get it if the staff is terrible. Regardless of how much you want to buy that specific car on the lot, you’re not going to buy it from a salesperson you don’t trust who gives you the best deal. Even if you love the content from an author or preacher, you’re not going to keep buying their books or showing up for their sermons if you think they aren’t genuine and trustworthy.

You are the magic. People choose people when they choose brands.

We usually start with the apparent items when we think about improving our brand or completely rebranding. We start looking at our colors, logos, websites, social media, and print materials. We begin with what we can see, but we don’t start with what’s most important: you.

You are the magic.

Have you taken the time to remember and rediscover who you are lately?

The question sounds trite, but starting with remembering and rediscovering yourself is the most critical step you must take toward improving your brand.

What do you need to remember?

  1. Remember why you started

  2. Remember what matters to you

  3. Remember what makes you unique

  4. Remember what impact you desire to make

  5. Remember why that impact matters

Easy to forget

I gave my son some chips last night. When I handed him the bag of chips, he said he didn’t like those. After I told him that he’s had those and wanted them before, he said he would try one. After he ate one chip, he said, “I like these. I forgot how much I like these.”

When we’re building our businesses or churches, we can easily forget who we are. We forget what woke us up with energy each morning as we step toward what we’re doing. We forget what made us feel like the work wasn’t even working. Before you know it, passion and purpose can get diluted by trying to grow and keep up with the growth. Everything conversation, every effort, and resource start to go toward who we are trying to reach.

You’d be surprised with how much of your brand can be improved by first remembering that you are the magic. Once you dial in on that and remember what that magic is, that will influence how you approach your messaging and marketing.
